About ForgeSolar

The team that invented solar glare analysis - now making it accessible to everyone who needs it.

Our Story

ForgeSolar was founded by the team that co-invented the Solar Glare Hazard Analysis Tool (SGHAT) with Sandia National Laboratories. Our work began when aviation authorities needed a scientifically rigorous method to assess whether solar installations posed risks to pilots and air traffic controllers.

The SGHAT methodology earned the prestigious R&D 100 Award - often called the "Oscar of Innovation" - recognizing it as one of the year's most significant technological breakthroughs. FAA policy required this methodology from 2013 until 2021, and hundreds of analyses built on it have been accepted in FAA review. The agency now names no tool at all, which leaves the method where it started: the published one that reviewers already know.

The method is published, not proprietary. It was introduced in Methodology to Assess Potential Glint and Glare Hazards From Concentrating Solar Power Plants: Analytical Models and Experimental Validation (Ho, Ghanbari & Diver, ASME Journal of Solar Energy Engineering, Vol. 133, 2011) and documented in the SGHAT Technical Reference Manual (SAND2014-18360 O, Sandia National Laboratories). Both are free to download from our references, along with the FAA policies and the validation work behind them — read the physics yourself, or hand it to a reviewer who wants to.

We created ForgeSolar to make this technology accessible to the broader solar industry. Whether you're developing a utility-scale project near an airport or installing rooftop panels in a residential neighborhood, you deserve access to the same rigorous analysis tools that satisfy the world's strictest regulators.
